The Presa Azúcar House project is the result of the intervention and renovation of a mid-century single-family home, aiming to update its spatial distribution and optimize its relationship with the surroundings.
The intervention process began with a reconfiguration of the architectural program, as the original layout no longer met contemporary living needs. A strategic redistribution was proposed to enhance functionality and spatial flow while respecting the preexisting structure and maximizing its potential.
On the ground floor, the public spaces—living room, dining room, and kitchen—were modified to open completely toward the rear patio, which was previously disconnected from the house. This approach expands the architectural program by integrating interior and exterior spaces, allowing for the addition of an outdoor dining area while improving natural light and ventilation.
On the upper level, the intervention responded to the need for a master bedroom with an en-suite bathroom and walk-in closet. To achieve this, two of the existing rooms were combined, while the third remained as a secondary bedroom with an external bathroom.
The rooftop was conceived as a multifunctional space, housing a TV and guest room with an attached bathroom and private terrace. Vertical circulation is resolved through a newly designed staircase, conceived as a volume reminiscent of an elevator shaft. This element is integrated into the rear façade, creating a compositional contrast that highlights the contemporary intervention while maintaining a dialogue with the original structure.
