Project: Estudio Atemporal
Location: Milton, Colonia Anzures, Delegación Miguel Hidalgo, CDMX, México
Area: 227 m2
Year: 2017
The project is the result of the restoration and remodeling of a 1950s single-family residence that was previously developed in two stages. In the first two phases of the project, work focused on the second and third levels, which were used as a temporary apartment and a terrace, respectively.
Throughout each of the three stages, the intention was to reinterpret the proportions, atmospheres, and motifs characteristic of the period in which the house was originally built, combining original elements with a new, shared palette that coexists with the pre-existing structure and generates new experiences within the home.
The third stage represented the phase of consolidation, in which the house was unified as a single entity by completing the architectural program to respond fully to the needs and desires of its inhabitants. To achieve this, the public and service areas that had been temporarily located on the second level were relocated to the ground floor, allowing the second level to be dedicated to the private areas of the program.
Finally, the three levels were articulated through the staircase, located at the heart of the house, where a monolithic concrete element—independent from the existing structure—was designed as a sculptural piece with its own plastic expression, giving meaning and cohesion to the surrounding spaces.
