Casa Pani is an intervention project in a single-family residence originally built in the 1960s by architect Mario Pani. As one of the most influential architects in Mexico during that period and a key promoter of functionalism in the country, the language of his legacy is clearly present.

The main premise in the conceptualization of this project was restoration. Given the house’s advanced state of deterioration, the recovery of this piece of the city’s architectural history became essential.

Through the incorporation of a new program and set of requirements—transforming the house from a single-family residence into a boutique hotel—a new chapter is introduced, giving the building a distinct and contemporary character in its use.

The intervention is divided into two volumes: on one hand, the original house at the front of the site, adapted to accommodate four private guest rooms with en-suite bathrooms and a common area on the ground floor; and on the other, a new rear volume connected through the covered pool area. This new building seeks to establish a respectful spatial relationship with the original structure while asserting its own identity, and is connected across its two upper levels by a spiral staircase on the façade, leading to two additional guest rooms.
