The first half of the 20th century radically transformed Mexico City. In the Condesa neighborhood—founded in 1902 on the grounds of a former pulque hacienda—a unique architectural language emerged, defined by eclecticism, Art Deco, and the Colonial Revival style. After decades during which many of these single-family residences disappeared due to vertical densification, Casa Yautepec stands as an act of preservation, rescuing a fragment of the capital’s urban history.
Far more than a simple renovation, the project is a respectful intervention that restores the formal essence of the original residence while reprogramming its spaces for modern living. The proposal reconfigures the architectural layout by incorporating a family kitchen as the heart of the home, increasing the number of bathrooms, and adding an additional upper level designed for a study and service areas.
The result is an atmosphere where the patina of the past and the precision of the contemporary coexist in balance, celebrating the neighborhood’s identity through contrasting materials and adaptable spaces.
