Project: Estudio Atemporal
Location: Playa Mermejita, Mazunte, Oaxaca, México
Area: 253 m2
Year: 2024
Located on the coast of Oaxaca, this house harmoniously blends into the landscape, prioritizing fluid spaces, warm textures, and a design that connects with its surroundings. Featuring a large roof inspired by the functionality of a palapa, it provides climate protection and promotes ventilation, creating fresh and relaxed environments.
Built on a hillside, it combines a solid base with strategic openings that optimize views, ventilation, and shade, along with a lightweight structure that differentiates the spaces. Its L-shaped design efficiently organizes the architectural program, articulating experiences and views, with a central axis that includes a staircase and a pool, separating social areas from private ones.
The house takes full advantage of the site’s natural conditions to promote cross ventilation, natural lighting, and a comfortable microclimate. It also incorporates a rainwater collection system, ensuring sustainability. This project reinterprets traditional Oaxacan elements through a contemporary architectural approach that respects its environment.
